Islamabad Traffic Police has closed Kashmir Chowk to traffic until further notice as construction continues on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass. The closure affects motorists travelling towards Bhara Kahu, Rawal Dam Chowk and nearby areas. Authorities have advised commuters to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Motorists travelling from Rawal Dam towards Bhara Kahu should take the loop connecting to Srinagar Highway. They should then make a U-turn at Margalla Mor before continuing towards Bhara Kahu.
Meanwhile, drivers travelling from Aabpara towards Kashmir Chowk should continue along Srinagar Highway towards Korang Wala Chowk. From there, they should use the Naval U-turn before heading back towards Rawal Chowk.
However, commuters should expect delays, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Islamabad Traffic Police has advised drivers to follow the diversions and avoid approaching the closed junction directly.
The closure comes as authorities accelerate construction of the Rs1.4 billion Kashmir Chowk Underpass. According to a recent PakWheels report, the project is 51% complete, with authorities targeting completion around the first week of November 2026.
The Capital Development Authority estimates that approximately 107,000 vehicles pass through Kashmir Chowk every day.
Once completed, the project will include dedicated underpasses for traffic travelling from Serena and Faizabad towards Murree. It will also feature four slip roads to improve traffic flow around the junction.
When Will Kashmir Chowk Reopen?
Islamabad Traffic Police has not announced a reopening date. Therefore, motorists should follow official traffic advisories, use alternative routes and allow extra travel time until authorities ease the restrictions.
