…there are moments when the next step is not forward. It is inward… 'There is a mental state in which you may still the waters of the Ocean of Life so that the image of the Infinite Sun may be clearly and distinctly reflected in its bosom. It is 'The Quiet Place of the Soul'… the Silence in the midst of the Storm of Life. There the winds of the senses, and the waves of the passions are stilled… In that state of Quiet and Peace the Soundless Sound is heard.' —William Walker Atkinson,(Excerpts fromSpiritual Power) 🎧🔊008 // Respite - 1 Hour Dark Ambient Reflection Oblivionscape There is a place between becoming and being. A quiet interval beyond the machinery of urgency, where the identities we have carried no longer speak quite as loudly and the future has not yet demanded a name. The traveler arrived there exhausted. Behind him lay a world of motion—expectation, consequence, responsibility, the endless pressure to decide what everything meant. Ahead stood two enormous faces carved into the architecture of the horizon, staring silently across an impossible threshold. They looked almost identical. One was who he had been. The other was everything he believed he still needed to become. And between them burned a circle of white light. He had spent much of his life believing that transformation required movement—that every uncertainty demanded an answer, every silence demanded interpretation, every open door demanded passage. But the circle did not call him forward. It simply remained. So he stopped. For the first time, he allowed the unanswered questions to remain unanswered. He released the compulsion to reconstruct himself from the fragments of what had happened. He stopped rehearsing yesterday and negotiating with tomorrow. And slowly, something unexpected occurred. The two faces began to lose their distinction. Past and future. Memory and possibility. The self that had survived and the self that might emerge. He realized that perhaps neither one was entirely him. They were structures consciousness had built around experience—necessary for a time, perhaps, but never the whole of what stood beneath them. Here, in the space between the two, there was nothing to defend. Nothing to perform. Nothing to become. Only awareness. Only breath. Only the strange recognition that beneath every role, ambition, wound, desire, and imagined future existed something quieter that had never been moving at all. The traveler looked again toward the circle. Perhaps it was not an exit. Perhaps it was an aperture. A momentary opening through which consciousness could perceive itself without the noise of the world reflected back at it. And so he remained there awhile. Not retreating from life. Not surrendering the journey. Simply allowing the machinery within him to fall silent. Because even consciousness requires intervals. Even transformation requires stillness. Even the traveler must occasionally set down the map. And somewhere beyond the immense stone faces, beyond the horizon and whatever waited there, the world continued turning without him. For now. He discovered that it could. And that was Respite. Without prevarication | The Hidden Hero Subscribe now Share Share Hidden Hero Media Leave a comment
