Victims identified after Amazon plane crash kills 5, injures 5, at Miami airport

MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — Five people killed when a plane crashed at Miami International Airport and struck their van were identified Tuesday by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Officials identified the five people killed as: Rolando Alemán León, 55 Joel Rodríguez Naranjo, 53 Julio C. Pineda, 75 Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53 Abierquis Reyes Quevedo, 47 The five injured are: Eugenio Corredor, 79 (Critical condition) Ridoel Averhoff Diaz (Critical condition) Roosevelt Sebastian Perdomo Torres (Critical condition) Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, 37 (Minor injuries) Joseph Carol, 55 (Minor injuries) Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz confirmed all five victims were inside a van that was struck by the aircraft. Seven people were inside the van at the time of the crash. Two survived, according to officials. Five people were taken to the hospital following the crash. The two pilots have since been released. Three other people remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition and one in stable condition. Officials did not specify which vehicle the surviving victims were in, citing medical privacy. The NTSB is leading the investigation into the aircraft and crash, while the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office Homicide Bureau is investigating the deaths. Sheriff's officials said the two investigations are separate but will work together to determine what happened and whether any criminal charges could result. Officials said it is too early to determine whether anyone could face criminal charges in connection with the deaths. However, the sheriff said such charges could be possible depending on the findings of the investigation. Anyone found trespassing on the active criminal investigation scene or breaking the law could be arrested and prosecuted, according to the sheriff's office. NE 67th Avenue remains closed between NE 32nd Street and NE 25th Street. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Miami International Airport is also experiencing flight delays and cancellations. Travelers are encouraged to check with their airline for the latest flight information before heading to the airport. The sheriff's office said victim advocates and chaplains remain available to support the victims' families at the family reunification center.
