The prime minister recalled that, prior to the federal budget, multiple rounds of consultations had been held with the business community on various economic issues. He termed the reform process a long journey achieved through collective effort and sustained teamwork between the government and the private sector. The prime minister said it was for this reason that the International Monetary Fund (IMF), for the first time, extended relevant allowance, while the IMF Managing Director, during her interaction with the prime minister, had agreed to offer a tax waiver. He said all these measures had been undertaken in consultation with the business community, describing them as part of a long journey accomplished through teamwork. He said it was for this reason that special tax relief had been extended to exporters in the federal budget. The prime minister said the purpose of the meeting was to seek the business community's views, as the country had entered the first quarter of the fiscal year, on the challenges confronting export enhancement and possible solutions to address them. 'Continued Coordination to Increase Investment and Boost Exports' Speaking on the occasion, business leaders appreciated the government's engagement with the business community and expressed confidence that continued coordination would help increase investment and boost exports. Renowned businessman Arif Habib said the government had incorporated several proposals of the business community in the federal budget and expressed hope for increased investment and export growth during the current year. Notable industrialist Amir Ibrahim said the meeting focused particularly on enhancing exports, including from traditional sectors as well as emerging areas such as telecommunications, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI). He said business leaders had called for greater focus on AI infrastructure, including data centres and AI factories, to strengthen Pakistan's digital economy. Another businessman, Umar Saeed, welcomed regular consultations between the government and industry, saying such interaction would help resolve business-related issues and improve the country's exports and economy. Business leader Shehzad Saleem said the prime minister had keenly listened to the discussion and taken note of all the issues raised, adding that business leaders had also put forward several useful suggestions. He said the prime minister had directed that the concerns of businessmen be resolved and urged that such meetings be held regularly. Industrialist Javaid Balwani also appreciated the establishment of FBR offices in Karachi and Lahore, describing the initiative as helpful in facilitating the business community. He said continued interaction between the government and business community would help improve the national economy and enhance exports.
