Yayasan JCorp Marks Third Year of Coral Rehabilitation with Largest Restoration Effort at Pulau Aur

Beyond coral rehabilitation, participants will take part in a series of activities designed to promote environmental awareness and strengthen community engagement Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp) has reached another significant milestone in its marine conservation journey as it enters the third consecutive year of its Coral Rehabilitation Programme at Pulau Aur. This year's initiative will see 300 rescued coral nubbins rehabilitated, bringing the Foundation's overall restoration efforts to 550 coral nubbins since the programme was introduced in 2023. Organised in collaboration with Reef Check Malaysia, the three-day programme from 4th to 6th September 2026 reflects Yayasan JCorp's long-term approach to restoring one of Johor's richest marine ecosystems. Building on the encouraging progress achieved over the past two years, this year's rehabilitation effort continues to strengthen reef resilience, enhance marine biodiversity and support the long-term sustainability of Pulau Aur's underwater ecosystem. Coral reefs play a vital role in sustaining marine life, protecting coastlines and supporting local livelihoods through fisheries and ecotourism. Recognising their ecological and economic importance, Yayasan JCorp continues to invest in science-based conservation initiatives that combine ecosystem restoration with community participation to create lasting environmental impact. Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Johor Corporation, Dato' Mizan Yahya, said protecting marine ecosystems requires sustained commitment and strong partnerships. 'Marine conservation is not judged by what we achieve in a single year, but by our consistency in protecting and restoring ecosystems over time. Every coral rehabilitated represents another step towards healthier reefs, richer biodiversity and a more sustainable future for our oceans.' Beyond coral rehabilitation, participants will take part in a series of activities designed to promote environmental awareness and strengthen community engagement. These include underwater and coastal clean-up missions, crown-of-thorns starfish removal, and marine appreciation activities. The programme also leverages on Pentas Seni Johor, a cultural synergy hub and performance platform, to include community beach games, cultural exchange sessions and community coffee gatherings that celebrate the unique heritage and traditions of Pulau Aur while fostering closer connections between JCorp Group volunteers and the island community. As part of the programme, Yayasan JCorp will also make contributions to the local community and conduct conservation awareness and knowledge-sharing sessions to encourage greater awareness and therefore, participation in protecting and monitoring Pulau Aur's marine ecosystem. These initiatives are intended to empower the community to act as active custodians of their natural environment and reinforce the importance of collective responsibility in conservation. The Coral Rehabilitation Programme is one of Yayasan JCorp's flagship initiatives under its Environment pillar. It complements the Foundation's broader environmental efforts, including mangrove restoration, seagrass conservation, river and coastal clean-up programmes, biodiversity awareness campaigns and community-based ecotourism initiatives, reflecting a holistic approach to safeguarding Malaysia's natural ecosystems. As the dedicated 'Membela' arm of Johor Corporation (JCorp), Yayasan JCorp continues to translate the Group's commitment into meaningful action by creating opportunities, strengthening communities and advancing environmental sustainability across Johor and Malaysia. Through this continued effort, the Foundation aims to achieve a 70% coral survival rate after 12 months, while empowering the Pulau Aur community to become active guardians of its marine ecosystem.
