The training enables Lady Health Supervisors and Workers in rural Islamabad to screen household salt, monitor iodized salt use and raise awareness to help prevent iodine deficiency. ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Nov, 2026) The District Health Office (DHO) Islamabad, with the support of UNICEF, has trained Lady Health Supervisors (LHSs) and Lady Health Workers (LHWs) to strengthen community-level efforts for promoting Universal Salt Iodization (USI). A training session was initially organized for LHSs to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to further train LHWs in their respective areas. Following the sessions, the training was successfully extended to all LHWs working in rural Islamabad, enabling them to undertake household-level salt screening, monitor the use of iodized salt and raise awareness about the importance of iodine for good health. The trained frontline health workers will play a key role in identifying households using non-iodized salt and encouraging communities to adopt adequately iodized salt. The initiative aims to strengthen community-level implementation and monitoring of the Universal Salt Iodization programme to help prevent iodine deficiency and promote better public health. Through these efforts, the DHO Islamabad and UNICEF are working to improve public awareness and support wider access to adequately iodized salt.
