There is a sense of control and power in reclaiming jokes that vilify our bodies. Doing so in a society that is obsessed with thinness is an act of resistance. Having a good sense of humor as a fat person has been a survival tactic as old as time, and out of the consequences of fatphobia, this one is my favorite. Personally, I think this is why fat people tend to have a higher and superior sense of humor. The moment I became comfortable with my fatness, I began collecting fat pride merch. I've worn most of it as a fashion statement, but it inevitably ends up as PJ shirts. But Fat Swag's designs might just stay in my closet permanently, out of my PJ drawer.
