Laptops to be distributed among special students in KP

DLP Report PESHAWAR A meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister's Adviser on Zakat and Ushr, Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment Malik Liaqat Ali Khan on Monday reviewed progress on the distribution of specialised laptops among students with disabilities. Social Welfare Secretary Sharif Hussain and other relevant officials attended the meeting, which was briefed on the selection of eligible students, priority criteria and the procedure for distributing the laptops. Officials informed the meeting that the laptops were specially designed to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities and would help them access education through modern technology. It was decided that being a student would be a mandatory condition for receiving a laptop. Priority would be given to students enrolled in institutions run by the Special Education Department. The meeting further decided that if no eligible student meeting the prescribed criteria was available at an institution, the laptop would be allocated to the next eligible student to ensure that the facility reached a genuinely deserving recipient. Malik Liaqat Ali Khan directed the relevant authorities to ensure merit, transparency and genuine need remained the key considerations throughout the distribution process. He stressed that no negligence should be shown in identifying deserving students. Officials were also directed to complete the identification of eligible students, prepare lists and ensure timely distribution of the laptops. The adviser said providing students with disabilities access to modern technology was among the government's priorities. Such initiatives, he added, were aimed at improving educational opportunities for special students, equipping them with modern technological skills and enabling their greater inclusion in society.
