ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night on Interstate 395 southbound north of Duke Street, Virginia State Police said Tuesday.
A trooper found the pedestrian on the left shoulder at about 8:29 p.m., state police said. That trooper and a second trooper attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian later died. The person's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian stopped a short distance away, and the driver called 911.
Alexandria police closed the ramp from Interstate 395 westbound to Duke Street southbound and asked drivers to use an alternate route, the department said in a 9:13 p.m. post on social media.
The crash remains under investigation.
