Warrington council leader says Andy Burnham will be a ‘fair' Prime Minister

Warrington Borough Council's leader Cllr Hans Mundry says he is sure Andy Burnham will be a 'fair' Prime Minister. Mr Burnham became Prime Minister in July after replacing Sir Keir Starmer. Cllr Mundry said: "I'm sure Andy Burnham will be a fair Prime Minister and make sure everybody gets what they deserve and what they need. "Obviously, I've worked with Andy for a long period of time on Transport for the North and particularly on the Liverpool to Manchester rail board and getting the Bank Quay station in there, so a massive investment in there which Warrington residents will benefit from going forward." Furthermore, Cllr Mundry said the economic growth which will be delivered in Warrington will 'make sure that Warrington people can benefit from the growth that we achieve'. Earlier this year, a masterplan was unveiled for a transformed Bank Quay quarter in Warrington – featuring an upgraded train station. The Bank Quay Gateway proposals, which could deliver up to 4,500 new homes and two million square feet of commercial space, aim to capitalise on the town's role in the planned £45 billion Liverpool-Manchester railway line. Warrington Bank Quay is set to become a major hub on the proposed Northern Powerhouse Rail line between Manchester and Liverpool. The £45billion rail line is expected to act as a major catalyst for the 300-acre Bank Quay Gateway regeneration scheme, which could see a vast area of underused brownfield land transformed into a vibrant new district. But the full realisation of the Bank Quay scheme relies on the delivery of the Government's Northern Powerhouse Rail link.
