Literacy is fundamental to national development

Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja, reiterated the importance of literacy, saying it is fundamental to personal empowerment and national development. ‎ ‎She disclosed this in her message to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the International Literacy Day 2026 with the theme — 'Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity,' ‎ ‎Tinubu emphasised the need for everyone to have access to equality education. ‎ ‎She further called for more attention to adult education and development to help the people acquire the right knowledge that would assist them in making informed decisions. ‎ ‎She said 'when adults can read, write and acquire basic digital and financial skills, they are better equipped to improve their livelihoods, grow their businesses and support their children's education. ‎ ‎'This important milestone provides another opportunity to renew our commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied the opportunity to learn because of age or circumstance. ‎ ‎'Let us work together to build a more literate, productive and prosperous nation. Happy International Literacy Day 2026.' ‎ ‎Tinubu had consistently championed education and literacy as vital tools for personal growth and national progress. (NAN)
