Hi! My name is Alex (they/them) and I am a PhD student and community organiser witht the italian fat liberationist collectiveGrassi Diritti. You're readingdietassassina(dieta = diet, assassina = killer), the newsletter that for two seasons explored the politics of fat liberation in italian. In this new third season, it will walk alongside me through the long journey of my PhD, with a new issue every month. Why the PhD?Because my project is about fat people at work: how they resist discrimination and how they carry social justice forward. This newsletter started with a very clear objective in mind: translating work in italian. One of the main issues we found, as a collective operating within the principles and areas of fat liberation is Italy, is the very little content in italian. However, after many years -the newsletter started in 2023- I decided that from today the posting will be in italian and in english. It just feels right to me, I am thinking speaking and writing in English. First, let me show you a picture I took while walking Central London. Fat people are under enormous pressure to weight loss, whenever I see representation (hidden or not), I like to highlight it :) This is a bit of a different kind of issue. Every now and then I want to share resources I come across online, things worth your time even when I haven't written a full piece around them. Consider it a running shelf rather than an essay. If you have something you'd like added to the next 'fat news and resources' round-up, drop me a message on IG@alebrunooo, email me atale.alex.bruno@gmail.com, or leave it in the comments here. Let's start then! Report on fatness and abortion A report, published April 2026, from Grassi Diritti, made together with Aborto in Pillole and Women Help Women, looking at how anti-fatness shapes access to abortion care: from provider bias to the physical logistics of clinics built for thin bodies. Available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BIcFjqQjOaCxijkLgFpqL-kMcxJNC_Fk/view?usp=sharing GLP-1 consent forms MSSI's informed consent guidelays out, in plain terms, the risks and benefits of GLP-1 receptor agonists. MSSI is Medical Students for Size Inclusivity, the group behind AWSIM below. Grassi Dirittihas adapted itfor an Italian context, and wants feedback from anyone using it. Fat liberation and intersectionality Body Liberation Networkput together an infographic on how fat liberation exposes the shared logic behind the systems that oppress a whole range of bodies, not just fat ones. A good one to send to people who think fat liberation is a niche concern. Fat Con thefatcon on Instagram. A three-day convention built around fat joy rather than fat tolerance: keynotes, workshops, a fashion show, a marketplace. Worth following even if Seattle is far from you. Da'Shaun L. Harrison on 'Body Fascism' Harrison defines body fascism as the promotion of a single 'ideal' body as a marker of patriotism, with diet culture doing the disciplinary work and Black fat bodies absorbing the worst of it. They trace it back to the BMI's eugenicist origins, and tease the new book in the piece.Read it here NAAFA's anti-racism toolkit A set of resources on how anti-fatness and anti-Blackness reinforce each other, published as part of NAAFA's newsletter.
