Jal Shakti minister orders post-monsoon repair of pipeline-dug rural roads

Lucknow: After extensive road digging across rural Uttar Pradesh to lay water pipelines, the state will launch a large-scale road repair campaign from the beginning of Oct to restore damaged stretches once the monsoon ends. The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired on Monday by Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh. Singh said roads in several areas remain dug up due to ongoing rural water supply works, and monsoon rains have worsened commuting conditions for residents. He directed officials to begin refilling, levelling and restoring such roads from Oct to ease public movement while ensuring drinking water projects continue towards completion. The minister reviewed the status of drinking water schemes across divisions and instructed engineers to intensify on-ground supervision. He sought details from engineers and superintending engineers on field inspections and night stays at project sites, and ordered assistant engineers and junior engineers to conduct night stays in project areas for closer monitoring of work. Singh also directed departments to increase manpower wherever needed to meet project timelines. Emphasising water management, he asked officials to ensure regular monitoring of drinking water projects and supply systems to improve performance. To strengthen oversight, Singh instructed all engineers to prepare confidential reports on subordinate engineers and agencies under their supervision and submit them to additional chief secretary.
