The Inbetweeners 3 Begins Production With Original Cast

Will, Jay, Neil and Simon are officially back together. Netflix has announced that production is underway in the United Kingdom on The Inbetweeners 3 , continuing the hugely popular British sitcom and its two record-breaking theatrical movies. Simon Bird will reprise his role as Will McKenzie alongside James Buckley as Jay Cartwright, Blake Harrison as Neil Sutherland and Joe Thomas as Simon Cooper. Original creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are also returning to write and direct the movie. The four actors shared the news in a special announcement video from the set. Their reunion comes 16 years after the television series concluded its three-season run on Channel 4. It also marks the group's first feature-film adventure since The Inbetweeners 2 arrived in 2014. Claire Jones will produce The Inbetweeners 3 alongside Banijay's Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Productions' Mark Lesbirel. Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, Farhana Bhula, Morris and Beesley serve as executive producers. 'It's been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we're going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans,' Beesley and Morris said. Netflix has not revealed the story, additional cast members, or a release date. However, bringing back the four leads and original creators gives the movie the key ingredients needed to recapture the painfully awkward humor that made the franchise a hit. The biggest question is what adulthood looks like for four characters who could barely survive school, family vacations, relationships, and nights out without causing a disaster. The Inbetweeners originally aired on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2010. The coming-of-age sitcom followed suburban teenager Will McKenzie after he transferred from private school to the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive. Will soon became friends with Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland and Jay Cartwright. Together, they stumbled through school life, friendship, rejection and a long series of failed attempts to impress girls. Each member of the group brought something different to the comedy. Will desperately wanted to appear mature and intelligent. Simon frequently allowed his feelings for Carli to control his decisions. Jay hid his insecurities behind outrageous stories, while Neil remained cheerfully unaware of almost everything happening around him. The series connected with audiences by presenting teenage life as uncomfortable, confusing, and rarely glamorous. Its humor came from the group's poor decisions and recognizable insecurities rather than an idealized version of adolescence. Over three seasons and 18 episodes, The Inbetweeners established new ratings records for E4 and became one of Britain's defining modern comedies. The show received two BAFTA nominations for Situation Comedy. Bird and Buckley also earned individual performance nominations. In 2010, the series won the publicly voted YouTube Audience Award at the BAFTA Television Awards. The franchise successfully moved from television to theaters with The Inbetweeners Movie in 2011. Backed by Film4, the first movie followed Will, Simon, Jay and Neil on a graduation vacation to Malia. Their plans for an unforgettable trip quickly fell apart through bad decisions, romantic failures and several humiliating encounters. The Inbetweeners Movie debuted at No. 1 and set a record for the biggest opening weekend for a British comedy at the time. Its success proved that the show's audience was ready to follow the characters beyond Rudge Park. A second Film4-backed movie arrived in 2014. The Inbetweeners 2 sent the group to Australia, where another attempt at adventure created an even larger collection of disasters. The sequel also broke box-office records and reinforced the franchise's place in British comedy history. The passage of time creates a promising new direction for the characters. Bird, Buckley, Harrison and Thomas were playing teenagers when audiences first met Will, Jay, Neil and Simon. The third film can now explore friendships, careers, marriage, parenthood and middle age through four men who may not be any better prepared for adulthood. Will could still be fighting to prove he is the smartest person in every room. Simon may remain trapped in another terrible romantic situation. Jay has likely spent the past decade inventing increasingly unbelievable stories, while Neil could somehow be the most well-adjusted member of the group. Whatever brings them together again, it will probably become uncomfortable very quickly.
