Two sons held over ‘murder' of 95-year-old mother

KAGADI — Police in Kagadi District are holding two brothers in connection with the suspected murder of their 95-year-old mother, Kabagenzi Angela, whose body was found dumped in a sugarcane plantation with the head missing. Kabagenzi, a resident of Matuntu A Village in Kagadi District, reportedly went missing from her home on the night of September 4, 2026. Her body was discovered the following morning, September 5, approximately 300 metres from her home in a sugarcane plantation. According to police, the deceased's head was missing when her body was discovered, prompting investigators to launch a search for the missing body part and establish the circumstances surrounding her death. Police officers responded to the scene and deployed a sniffer dog to help trace the possible movement of the suspect or suspects from the scene. Investigators established a possible exit route through the thick sugarcane plantation before introducing police sniffer dog No. T/P 240 Marshal, which picked up a scent and tracked it to the home of Biija Peter, one of the deceased's sons. The dog subsequently proceeded to the home of Isingoma, another son of Kabagenzi. Police arrested the two men to assist with investigations into their mother's death. During the operation, police said Isingoma led officers and community members to a location where the deceased's missing head had allegedly been buried. The head was recovered from the location and taken into police custody as investigations continued. The two suspects remain in custody as police investigate the circumstances surrounding Kabagenzi's death and the alleged involvement of her sons. Police have not yet disclosed the motive for the suspected murder or the circumstances under which the elderly woman was killed. Investigations are ongoing.
