Vancouver coffee chain shutters Main Street location

They alerted the neighbourhood with a note on the door. Main Street has one fewer coffee shop after this weekend. The Artigiano at 4010 Main St. has closed; as of Sept. 7 the windows were papered over, though the location had been open on Friday, Sept. 4. A note on the door says goodbye to the neighbourhood. "For years it's been our privilege to be a part of your mornings, your afternoon breaks, your catch-ups, and everything in between," reads the note. The location was around for more than a decade, opening when the building it was located in first opened. The closure has not been announced online, and as of publication, the Artigiano site still lists the Main Street location. Artigiano still has around 18 locations in southwestern B.C. and one location in Calgary, according ot its website. While the Main Street location closed this week, Artigiano has grown in other areas. The local chain opened a new location at the Brentwood Town Centre Station last month. In the late 1990s, entrepreneurial brothers Vince and Sammy Piccolo opened the first Caffè Artigiano locations on Hornby Street, West Pender Street and West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver.
