SEC names Faizon Brandon ‘Freshman of the Week' after incredible Tennessee debut

After Faizon Brandon's big game against Furman to open the season, by no surprise he was named SEC freshman of the week. Tennessee football got a big win to open the season against Furman, defeating them 56-9. It was a masterclass from freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon as he finished with 294 yards and five touchdowns in his first start. That led the SEC to honor him as freshman of the week, and there could be more where that came from as the season continues. Expand Tweet That's a good way for Brandon to start his collegiate career, and the hope is that he can put up those kinds of numbers against real competition. Head coach Josh Heupel was honest about Brandon's performance, and he wants him to continue to keep playing clean football. Article Continues Below 'It always comes down to little things, that's at home or on the road, but on the road, it's amplified,' Heupel said via Stephen Thompson of the Knoxville News Sentinel. 'So great in communication, control and command of what we're doing. He's going to have to make plays but he's got to take care of the football as well.' Brandon had a touchdown on his first drive of the game, and then he rushed for two in the second quarter. He then threw two touchdowns in the third quarter to Mike Matthews. 'It means a lot. All the hard work we put in together in the offseason just built a lot of trust between me and (my teammates), and they just had a lot of trust in me to play very hard, so, I feel like that's where it all started at,' Brandon said after the game. It looks like the vibes are high for Tennessee, and it'll be interesting to see if they can keep it going.
