UH wide receiver Stephon Johnson cleared to play for Cougars against Southern

Wide receiver Stephon Johnson is eligible and will play against Southern on Saturday, University of Houston coach Willie Fritz said Monday. Johnson was among the plaintiffs granted a temporary restraining order by a Dallas judge in late August that allows him to play a fifth year of college football. Johnson has practiced with the Cougars the past two weeks as he works his way back into game shape. 'He kind of got thrown in the fire there late, but he'll be ready to go this week,' Fritz said. Fritz was less certain about the status of Myles Rowser, an All-Big 12 safety at Arizona State who joined the Cougars in late August. Rowser's eligibility is tied to a separate court case. 'I'm not quite sure with him,' Fritz said. 'I don't know if he'll be eligible this week.' UH could receive an update on Rowser's status late this week, Fritz said.
