A Rebrand

Originally, The Bookish Squirrel was the name I had chosen for a crafty business I was wanting to set up. The idea of which was to create bookish gifts for book lovers.I'm a massive book nerd, I love reading, studied librarianship at university and worked in libraries after graduation. But my big dream has always been to open my own little independent, bricks and mortar bookshop.Sadly, that dream will always be a dream, as in reality it's not feasible.So, I was mulling over things a while back and fell onto the idea of The Bookish Squirrel. If a bookshop wasn't feasible, taking a side step to do something connected to books seemed like a good idea. The Substack connectioncame about last year when I was encouraged by a good friend to start writing. The Bookish Squirrel was right there so I decided to use it for my publication. I added Tales from the Drey (a DREY being a squirrel's nest) as the image it brought to mind of a squirrel typing away in its nest amused me. Now, life has a habit of throwing spanners and 'ah fuck' moments, big and small, into the mix, so The Bookish Squirrel never really got off the ground.My life this past year has definitely had those moments, one of the biggest being the breakup of my marriage and me moving out of the family home. It's very amicable, we still get on well, but it has been a big change.The RebrandThe changes in my life, and within myself, bring me to the change to The Bookish Squirrel. When I've sat trying to make some headway with the earning money part of TBS things just have felt 'off'. I couldn't gel with the original idea, I felt too restricted and wanted to change things up.My natural vibe and leaning is towards the darker side. I love crime fiction and true crime. I have a witchy, gothic, dark vibe going on. This is where my brain was wanting me to go when considering changes to The Bookish Squirrel. I also didn't want to be restricted to purely bookish stuffs, even though that was the original idea. This is where The Unhinged Squirrel comes in.My Threads and Insta accounts have been under The Unhinged Squirrel for a good few months, having changed them from Yarny Book Nerd (again, it didn't fit anymore).Today I posted this Thread… After making more coffee, I set my laptop away, sat down feeling inspired and started working on the rebrand. The Unhinged Squirrel definitely fits more with my vibe and aesthetic.I feel quite excited about it all 😊So here we are… a new logo, new ideas, a new direction.A new start. In more ways than one. My content here will continue to be more of the same, when I'm feeling inspired to write. Thanks for reading.
