The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake reveal should activate so many millennials

There are a few things that are synonymous with millennials. When people talk about being a "'90s kid," that is almost certainly referring to millennials. When they talk about listening to Britney Spears in her heyday or doing a full rewatch of the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy during a weekend getaway with friends, those are also millennials. And when they bring up the prospect of playing a formative video game as a "chosen one" little boy destined to save the legendary, fictional kingdom of Hyrule, that is a millennial talking about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, arguably the greatest game of all time. It's a good thing that Nintendo knows how to play the classics. On Tuesday, during a special Zelda-only 40th anniversary Nintendo Direct, the company revealed an extended trailer for its upcoming remake of the original Nintendo 64 classic. Let's just say that it looks like a proper remake, in that the art style looks absolutely gorgeous. As it tours around several familiar moments from Ocarina of Time, it also seems like a remake that has more or less been done from the studs up while keeping true to the game's original spirit. That, needless to say, is very exciting. It is sure to activate dormant millennials who genuinely enjoy reveling in the touchstones of their past (and who also happen to own a Nintendo Switch 2): The kicker? You can officially stop the evil demon king Ganondorf from conquering Hyrule (again) on Thursday, November 5th, 2026. Yes, dearest readers who enjoy adventuring around Hyrule more than anything, that is less than two months away at the time of this writing. I wouldn't go as far as to say that this Ocarina of Time remake is a Nintendo Switch 2 system-seller for the company, but maybe I'm underestimating the power of millennial nostalgia. In fact, I know I am.
