SDP Blueprint: Adebayo Reveals Major Plans for Nigeria Ahead of 2027

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has unveiled a wide-ranging policy blueprint for his proposed 2027–2031 administration, promising major reforms in governance, security, education, healthcare, energy and the economy. The blueprint, titled Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, is built around Adebayo's proposal to make Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution the operational guide for government policies, budgets and programmes. Under the plan, government performance would be judged not by the number of projects announced or commissioned but by measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians, particularly in security, food, healthcare, education, housing, employment, water, energy, transportation, justice and digital access. Governance based on measurable results Adebayo proposes a results-driven system in which Ministries, Departments and Agencies would be required to link major programmes to specific constitutional objectives and report measurable outcomes. The SDP candidate also proposes cooperative federalism, under which the Federal, State and Local Governments would work as development partners while retaining their constitutionally assigned responsibilities. His model would allow states and regions to develop areas where they have comparative advantages, while national infrastructure and inter-state commerce would connect them into what the blueprint describes as 'one productive Nigerian economy.' Focus on poverty and employment A major component of the blueprint is the fight against poverty and unemployment. Adebayo has proposed a full-employment strategy driven by agriculture, manufacturing, digital innovation and enterprise development. Earlier presentations of his agenda included a target of creating 30 million jobs. He has also proposed free and compulsory quality education from elementary school through tertiary level, alongside programmes designed to help graduates transition into employment. The SDP candidate further plans to enrol millions of out-of-school children and expand entrepreneurship and skills-development programmes for young Nigerians. Healthcare for all The blueprint proposes a universal healthcare system that would provide Nigerians with broader access to medical services. Adebayo has proposed regular health screening and expanded health insurance coverage, with citizens' National Identification Numbers used as part of the system. He has also linked healthcare reform to his broader social-democratic approach, which places citizens' basic needs at the centre of economic planning. Security and national defence Security is another central pillar of the SDP proposal. Adebayo has promised to restore territorial control across the country and confront terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes. He has also proposed rebuilding Nigeria's security institutions and strengthening the capacity and reputation of the Armed Forces.
