RAWALPINDI, Nov 08 (APP):The Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi intensified its cleanliness, anti-smog and anti-dengue campaigns across the city and its tehsils during the past week to improve sanitation and promote public awareness. On the directions of Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi and CEO Rawalpindi Waste Management Company Rana Sajid Safdar, special cleanliness operations were carried out along major roads, streets, markets, commercial centres and residential areas. The operations included mechanical and manual sweeping, road washing, waste lifting, drain desilting and removal of garbage from vacant plots to improve sanitation and prevent environmental pollution. The agency's field teams also monitored cleanliness arrangements, staff attendance, machinery and waste collection activities to ensure timely disposal of garbage. Meanwhile, the communication team conducted awareness activities in markets, commercial centres and residential areas, urging citizens and shopkeepers to dispose of waste at designated points, avoid littering and prevent water accumulation to curb dengue breeding. The anti-littering squad also remained active and issued warnings to people found dumping garbage in open spaces or burning waste, highlighting the harmful effects of such practices on the environment and public health. Special attention was also given to removing dust and waste from roads, footpaths and green belts under the anti-smog drive, while sanitation activities were carried out at potential dengue breeding sites. Speaking on the occasion, Rana Sajid Safdar said that all available resources were being utilised to improve sanitation across Rawalpindi and its tehsils in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said that a zero-tolerance policy was being followed against open dumping and burning of waste, adding that maintaining cleanliness was a shared responsibility of government institutions and citizens.
