Norwegian F-35s to honour King Harald V with funeral flyover

Four Royal Norwegian Air Force F-35 fighter jets will fly over Oslo Cathedral following the funeral of King Harald V on Wednesday, 9 September. The flypast is provisionally scheduled between 14:05 and 14:30, after the cathedral service. The aircraft will perform the internationally recognised 'missing man' formation, in which one jet leaves the formation and climbs away. The manoeuvre symbolises the death of the person being honoured, with the resulting empty space representing the loss. The flyover forms part of the Norwegian Armed Forces' official participation in the funeral and will honour King Harald's service as monarch and Commander-in-Chief. It remains subject to weather conditions and will be conducted under applicable safety regulations. SAS and Norwegian cancel Oslo flights during King Harald V's funeral SAS and Norwegian have cancelled a number of domestic flights on Wednesday, 9 September, at Avinor's request, as Oslo prepares for increased traffic surrounding the funeral of King Harald V. Norwegian initially cancelled 16 flights—eight return services linking Oslo with Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger—and subsequently withdrew another four flights. This brings the airline's total to 20 cancellations. Affected passengers have been notified and are being rebooked, although Norwegian warned that alternative services are filling quickly. At least 12 SAS domestic departures were also listed as cancelled, according to TV 2, although the airline had not yet confirmed the final number. SAS said it was adjusting its schedule in close cooperation with Avinor. The airport operator requested reduced traffic during periods when the greatest concentration of flights is expected. Avinor said the measure was intended to accommodate both regular operations and special aviation activity associated with the funeral. Travellers flying to or from Oslo have been advised to allow additional time.
