Hyundai, KOICA launch youth automotive project in Ghana

In Accra, Ghana, Hyundai Motor Company, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Plan International have launched the five-year Hyundai KOICA NextGen Project to develop young people's vocational skills in the automotive industry. The initiative was presented on September 3; it will run from 2026 to 2030 and includes training in electric vehicles and the latest automotive technologies. Training for young people As MyJoyOnline reports, 405 people will be direct beneficiaries of the programme. Another approximately 20,000 students at technical and vocational education institutions and their family members are expected by the organizers to benefit indirectly from the project. KOICA Ghana Office Director Dongwan Woo said that the development of electric vehicles, hybrid systems and digital diagnostics is creating a need for new equipment, strengthened safety standards and new skills. Updated curriculum Hyundai Motor Company Senior Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Planning Junseong Ko noted that the programme is intended to help train technical specialists for Ghana's automotive sector. The curriculum will cover modern approaches to servicing hybrid and electric vehicles. Plan International Ghana Acting Director Frederick Tay-Nobie emphasized that the project will give young people an opportunity to gain practical experience and professional skills. He also expressed the view that the initiative could change perceptions of the technical and automotive fields as predominantly male. The project will be implemented in cooperation with Ghana's Ministry of Education, the Ghana TVET Service, the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Accra Technical Institute in East Legon and Ho Technical University. Ghanaian Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said that the ministry would support the project through curriculum validation and aligning training with the needs of the automotive industry.
