Hubballi : The Solidarity Youth Movement on Tuesday urged the state govt to establish a Youth Commission to address educational, economic, social, mental health and employment-related issues faced by young people, as promised in the Congress assembly election manifesto. Addressing reporters, state secretary Ismail Theerthahalli said similar commissions in states such as Kerala, Assam and Mizoram had helped protect youth rights, support policy formulation, promote skill development and tackle drug abuse. The movement welcomed the govt's decision to launch the Bharat Jodo Youth organisation but said a dedicated commission was needed to ensure effective implementation of youth welfare programmes. Asadulla Khan Zaki said Karnataka 's youth population exceeded two crore but lacked adequate institutional support. He urged chief minister DK Shivakumar to take immediate steps to constitute the commission. The movement plans to seek an appointment with the chief minister and press for its demand.
