Arts at the Canopy, the area's newest collective, located at 1703 NE 8th Road, Ocala, hosted its grand opening events on Aug. 1 and 2. Not wasting any time in showcasing resident and guest artists, the gallery on Sept. 3 hosted its inaugural First Thursday Exhibit Reception.
The free public event showcased the works of artist Morgan Raines, which include expressive imagery inspired by wildlife, nature and the beauty of everyday life, according to collective founder and resident artist Jeffrey Moore.
The featured works demonstrate the art of sgraffito, a unique artistic process that creates richly textured and visually striking imagery through layered surfaces and intentional mark-making, Moore shared via email.
A post on the Arts at the Canopy Facebook page noted: 'We were truly humbled by the amazing turnout and especially excited to welcome so many first-time visitors to the gallery. It was wonderful to see our space filled with art lovers, conversation and community. Congratulations to Morgan on a fantastic exhibition opening! From the outstanding attendance to the great food, wine and camaraderie shared throughout the evening, it was a memorable celebration of art and connection.'
Arts at The Canopy also plans to offer juried shows, seasonal installations and community events that blend art, music, food and conversation. To the rear of the property is the Makers Cottage, where classes take place.
