Pierce Brosnan has praised actor Callum Turner amid speculation that he could be selected to play the next James Bond in the upcoming 007 film directed by Denis Villeneuve. The former Bond actor shared his thoughts on the casting process in an interview with Vanity Fair published on Tuesday, revealing that he has a particular appreciation for Turner, with whom he has previously worked. "All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire," Brosnan said. "Callum Turner is someone I've worked with, and he's so strong." Turner is reportedly among the final candidates being considered for the role, alongside Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden and Josh O'Connor. According to reports, the three actors participated in the final round of screen tests alongside an unidentified fourth candidate. Despite expressing support for Turner, Brosnan said he believed any of the shortlisted actors could take on the iconic role successfully. "They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film," he said. "They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men." He added that he wished whoever secured the part "the very best of life and strength and courage", while admitting that he was eagerly waiting for the casting announcement. Brosnan is not the only former Bond-related figure to express support for a potential successor. Gary Oldman, who stars alongside Lowden in Slow Horses , previously told Global News that he hoped his co-star would be chosen. The next James Bond film will be the franchise's first since Amazon MGM Studios took full creative control following discussions with longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Villeneuve is set to direct the 26th instalment, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman have also been selected to oversee the project. The film will follow Daniel Craig's final appearance as Bond in 2021's No Time to Die .
