"No Work, No Pay" Rule to Be Enforced Against Unauthorised Absentee Employees; Disciplinary Action Also Ordered By Baljit Balli/ Babushahi Bureau Chandigarh, September 8, 2026: The Bhagwant Mann Government has reiterated that the 'No Work, No Pay' principle will be enforced against government employees found absent from duty without authorisation, along with appropriate disciplinary action against the erring employees. In an official communication issued by the Department of Personnel , all departments have been directed that employees found absent after marking their attendance will be treated as being on unauthorised absence and will not be paid salary , in accordance with the established principle of 'No Work, No Pay.' The communication further states that such unauthorised absence will also invite appropriate disciplinary action against the employees found absent from duty. The direction said the government had received information that several employees mark their attendance at their respective offices and subsequently remain absent, particularly during working hours. Such absence, it said, causes considerable inconvenience to the general public. The order assumes significance amid the ongoing confrontation between the Punjab Government and employee organisations over pending DA/DR and other service-related demands , with government employees observing protests and mass leave on September 08, 2026. It may be recalled that the state government had also earlier directed departments to initiate action against employees found unauthorisedly absent during the August 27 protest.
