Fridge technician molests woman at Bengaluru home, beaten up

Bengaluru: A home appliance service turned frightening for a 23-year-old woman in southeast Bengaluru as a man claiming to be a technician allegedly molested her while repairing her refrigerator at her home. In her complaint, Sneha (name changed) said she had contacted the customer care of a home appliance firm by dialling a phone number she found on the internet on Sept 3 to get her refrigerator repaired. She was reportedly told that a technician would visit her home. Accordingly, a man arrived and introduced himself as the company's technician. Sneha told police that he started the repair work and asked her to assist him in picking or holding the materials. While she was assisting him, the technician allegedly touched her inappropriately and spoke to her objectionably. As a shocked Sneha shouted at him, he stopped the work and left the house. After her husband returned home from work, the duo discussed the matter and planned to call the technician the next day. He readily agreed to complete the work and visited her home on Sept 4. As he tried to misbehave again, Sneha's husband and neighbours confronted him. He was beaten up but he managed to escape. Begur police registered a case of sexual harassment. A senior officer said, 'We have traced the accused and have served him a notice for further investigation. The offence is punishable with less than seven years, so we cannot arrest him and produce before the court. We will be filing a report to the court based on the evidence.'
