Share A Scottish weaving mill has been shortlisted for a major manufacturing award after being recognised for its heritage, craftsmanship and global reach. Lochcarron of Scotland, based in Selkirk, is in the running for Manufacturer of the Year in the under £10 million category at the Made in Scotland Awards 2026. The business is the world's leading manufacturer of tartan and produces textiles that are used by traditional kiltmakers and luxury fashion houses around the world. The nomination recognises the company's ability to combine traditional Scottish textile manufacturing with contemporary design and international markets. Lochcarron is one of the last remaining weaving mills in the Scottish Borders, a region with a long history of textile production. The company reported turnover of £8.7 million in 2025 and employs around 80 people across design, production, warehousing and sales. Its textiles continue to be woven in Selkirk before being supplied to customers around the world, helping maintain specialist manufacturing skills within the region. The business has built an international reputation by preserving traditional tartan production while developing new designs for modern fashion and retail markets. The award nomination comes as Lochcarron continues to position its heritage craftsmanship as a commercial strength, using Scottish manufacturing and design to compete in global markets. The Made in Scotland Awards 2026 will recognise businesses across Scotland for their contribution to manufacturing, innovation and economic growth.
