PM Drew Commemorates Fifth Africa-CARICOM Day, Calls for Stronger Regional Ties

He said the commemoration aims to celebrate and highlight the ties that connect the Caribbean and the African region. The Prime Minister shared that the members of the communities across Caribbean and Africa celebrate the connection between the two regions. According to Dr Drew, the relationship is rooted deeply in history and strengthened by resilience of the two regions. The Prime Minister highlighted that the relationship is being carried forward by collaboration and opportunity. Dr Drew has asserted that Africa is not distant from the Caribbean region. He said that it is present in the culture, traditions and the identity of the Caribbean People. Africa is present in the very spirit of the Caribbean people. The Prime Minister has shared that in St Kitts and Nevis, they are working towards fostering those connections. The nation will work on improving those ties into meaningful cooperation in significant sectors of the economy. St. Kitts and Nevis has been making efforts to carve out collaboration opportunities in trade, investment, healthcare, education, culture and more. The island has been one of the most vocal supporters of greater connectivity and collaboration between Caribbean and Africa. The Prime Minister further renewed the call for the connection between the two regions through what he calls a transatlantic bridge of hope, advancement and shared prosperity. He said that he was proud to see St. Kitts and Nevis playing their role in strengthening the ties between the Caribbean and the African Region. He commented on the five year milestone and highlighted that the journey of bringing the two organisations closer is an ongoing and never ending process. The growth of this mandate can be seen in the fact that St Kitts and Nevis welcomed a cohort of nurses from Ghana. The island has also been the first of the Caribbean countries to take a step towards Historic Visa-Free Corridor. St Kitts and Nevis is the first Caribbean Country to have Visa Free Travel privileges with Nigeria.
