The Mount Gilead football team picked up nearly 500 yards in total offense Friday night in defeating Grove City Christian by a 42-7 margin. The Indians tallied 405 yards on the ground and 488 total in picking up the win and improving to 2-1. Wyatt Long ran for a touchdown to account for all the scoring in the first quarter. Long would connect with Brett Robson for a six-yard scoring pass in the second quarter and also hit Tyler Harr for a 48-yard touchdown. Boe Sayers also scored in that period, adding a 65-yard touchdown run, as the team increased its lead to a 28-7 margin. In the third quarter, Sayers got his second touchdown run — this time of eight yards — and Harr contributed an 80-yard run for points. Kaden St. Clair was perfect in six extra point tries. 'The boys came out and established the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and set the tone,' said head coach Mike Reid. 'We had a few mistakes, but bounced back from them and finished the game very strong. This is a great team win to take us into league play against a very much improved Loudonville team next week.' Harr finished with 200 rushing yards and added 77 through the air on three receptions. Sayers ran for 137 yards, while Long completed 4-of-6 passes for 83 yards. Northmor Golden Knights Northmor played visiting North Union evenly throughout the first half of their Friday night confrontation, but the Wildcats pulled away in the second half to take a 41-14 decision. The score was tied at 7-7 after the first quarter and 14-14 partway through the second period, but North Union scored to take a seven-point lead into the half and then added seven points in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth to widen their advantage. Tanner Miley and Jackson Welch combined on both of the Golden Knight touchdowns, with Miley hitting Welch for a 13-yard score in the first quarter and a pass of 14 yards in the second period. Andreh Abdelmassih added the extra point kick after both of those scores. Miley completed 10-of-20 passes for 58 yards and added 29 on the ground. Brody Beck ran for 26 yards and Welch had eight catches for 43 yards to lead Northmor receivers. Highland Scots Host Mount Vernon got touchdowns in both the first and second quarters and was able to keep Highland off the scoreboard Friday night in sending the Scots to a 12-0 non-league loss. Highland's defense held their opponents to 210 yards in the game, but they were limited to 142 in the defensive-minded game. Robby Schmidt hit on six passes for 62 yards, with Hudson Howell getting two catches for 32 yards and Hayden Moore adding two for 22. Schmidt added 32 on the ground, while Nick Hinkle led the team with 36. Rob Hamilton can be reached at 419-946-3010, ext. 1807. Connect with him on Twitter at @SportsMCS
