The government has announced a major relief for citizens seeking to obtain or renew their passports by extending working hours at eight major Regional Passport Offices across the country, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
According to an official notification, the selected passport offices will operate in two shifts, allowing citizens to access passport-related services until 12 midnight under the new arrangements.
The new schedule came into effect on August 20, 2026.
From Monday to Friday, the first shift will operate from 8 am to 4 pm, while the second shift will continue from 4 pm to 12 midnight.
The decision is aimed at providing greater convenience to the public, particularly working people who are unable to visit passport offices during normal daytime hours.
The extended timings are also expected to help reduce crowding and improve the delivery of passport services.
