Trio of juveniles arrested after NH-ND football game fight

NEW HARTFORD, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — New Hartford Police are reporting the arrest of three juveniles after a fight broke out during last Friday's football game at Don Edick Field. Officers reported to the New Hartford High School during the football game on Friday, September 4, between New Hartford and Utica Notre Dame. Upon their arrival, they encountered a fight between several juveniles, none of whom police say were enrolled in the New Hartford Central School District. Three of those juveniles were arrested after police broke up the fight. Due to their age, no other identifying information was released by New Hartford Police. All three juveniles were taken to the New Hartford Police Department, where they were charged with the following: Resisting arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor, Harassment, an unknown violation, Disorderly Conduct, a violation, and Obstructing Governmental Administration, a Class A Misdemeanor. The three juveniles were processed and released on appearance tickets to the Oneida County Probation Department at a later date. 'School sporting events are for students, families, athletes, and members of the community at large to come together and enjoy the game. Fighting and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Officers will respond quickly and take appropriate enforcement action when necessary,' New Hartford Police Chief Ron Fontaine said in a statement. 'Families should be able to come together at our school events, cheer on their children, and enjoy the experience in a safe and welcoming environment.' Fontaine also reiterated some rules for attending New Hartford football games: Elementary school students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult. No re-entry is permitted after halftime. Large bags and backpacks are not allowed at the field. New Hartford won Friday night's game, 49-6. Their next game at home will be on Thursday, September 10, when they host Rome Free Academy. The New Hartford Police Department said in a phone call with Eyewitness News that their normal complement of officers will be at Thursday night's game.
