RUTLAND CITY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) — A 70-year-old man was taken into custody after his alleged attempt to kidnap a child Sunday.
Officers responded to South Street for a kidnapping complaint, which claimed that a vehicle had stopped and tried to lure a child with candy, then drove off. The older model silver Corolla reportedly headed north down Granger Street.
After speaking with witnesses and looking through nearby camera footage, authorities identified James Traynor, of Rutland City. With some investigation a probable cause was found to move forward, leading to Traynor's arrest at his residence.
His vehicle and cell phone were seized as evidence, and Traynor was lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility.
