Teams who could rise, fall in next AP top 25 ranking

It doesn't get much more exciting in college football than opening weekend. That first kickoff, the hope of a better year, new coaches taking the field — these are things that happen every time a new season kicks in. Well, Week 1 for college football has almost come to a close. There's one game left set for Monday evening with No. 19 SMU going against Florida State in what's shaping up to be an exciting matchup. But, with almost all of the games over, it's not too early to predict which teams will rise and fall on the AP's Top 25 poll. The AP usually releases the college football AP Top 25 poll Sundays at 2 p.m. ET, but this weekend, they're not releasing it until Tuesday. So, let's get into a handful of teams that could be risers and fallers this week, mainly risers. Riser: The Texas Longhorns. This team absolutely annihilated Texas State with a 59-7 victory. That wasn't just a win. That was a statement win. Quarterback Arch Manning looked as strong as ever. Expect this team to go up this week from their No. 5 preseason ranking, as it did on ESPN's rankings. Faller: Michigan. Yes, the Michigan Wolverines pulled off a last-second win over Western Michigan with a crazy Hail Mary play, but the fact they almost lost to Western says something not very good. Expect Michigan to fall this week from its No. 16 preseason spot, at least for now. Riser: Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 4 in the AP's preseason poll. They beat the Wisconsin Badgers 41-13, and that lopsided win could move them up a notch. Riser: Georgia. The Bulldogs crushed the Tennessee State Tigers, 63-3. It was a great look for them. They were already ranked No. 3 in the AP's preseason poll, so they don't have far to go up, but it could move them up a touch. Now, let the games for Week 2 begin.
