Fox News host turns on Donald Trump over proposal to pay stay-at-home parents

A Fox News host called President Donald Trump's proposal to pay married stay-at-home parents with government childcare subsidies a 'terrible idea.' While Rachel Campos-Duffy touted the Trump administration's proposal as her 'favorite policy like ever that President Trump has brought' during the Monday, Sept. 7 broadcast, Fox & Friends host Lawrence Jones had a differing opinion on the matter. 'It's definitely a political winner. I see what the president is doing, but I think it's a terrible idea. It's socialism,' Jones, 33, said. Just give me more of my money,' Jones emphasized. 'Just lower my taxes. I don't want all these programs. Again, I understand that this is a political winner in this new age of populism,' he continued. 'But the government consistently choosing who they are going to give these tax benefits instead of just giving us the money. And if you want that money to pay for lower child care, then you can use that money for that.' 'But for example, I would not fall in this category. The money for the proposed childcare subsidies would come from a federal program that is intended to help low-income and working-class parents pay for their childcare so they can work or go to school, according to the outlet. Additionally, the outlet reported that critics have raised concerns that this proposal, should it go into effect, could potentially redirect the funding from working parents to married couples with one stay-at-home parent in certain income brackets. After the Fox & Friends broadcast, Jones reiterated his argument against the Trump administration's proposal on X, writing, 'Great for the midterms, but I want to keep & decide where my money goes.'
