FIR against SDM over disproportionate assets

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment has registered an FIR against SDM Vivek Rajput for allegedly acquiring assets and incurring expenditure disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as SDM, Sirsaganj, Firozabad. The case was lodged under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, following directions from the state govt after a vigilance inquiry found prima facie evidence of disproportionate assets. According to the FIR, Vigilance Department-3 of the Uttar Pradesh govt ordered a preliminary open inquiry against Rajput, who is currently posted in Rae Bareli, through a confidential communication dated July 22, 2024. The inquiry was conducted by the Vigilance Establishment, which submitted its final report to govt on March 5, 2026. Investigators examined Rajput's income and expenditure during the period under scrutiny while he was serving as a public servant. The inquiry found that his total income from all known legitimate sources amounted to Rs 38.87 lakh. In contrast, his expenditure on the acquisition of assets and maintenance during the same period was calculated at Rs 1.09 crore. Based on these findings, the Vigilance Establishment assessed a discrepancy of Rs 70.92 lakh, which it termed expenditure and assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Following the inquiry, the state govt directed the registration of a criminal case through a confidential communication dated June 3, 2026. Acting on a complaint filed by Inspector Ravi Shankar Pandey of the Vigilance Establishment's Agra Sector on Sept 2, 2026, an FIR was registered at the Vigilance police station.
