Broward man caught on video abusing ducks in Pines is arrested, police say

Christopher Antoine, 40, of Plantation was arrested on Sept. 7 after surveillance video showed several Pembroke Pines ducks being abused and killed on Aug. 30, police say. A Broward man is behind bars after police say he was identified as the man in surveillance footage seen abusing and killing several Pembroke Pines ducks. Investigators arrested Christopher Antoine — a 40-year-old from Plantation — on Monday, Sept. 7, just over a week after a clip of a man aggressively stomping on a mother duck and her ducklings began circulating on social media. Police say a 'good Samaritan in Davie' recognized Antoine from a 'Need to ID' flyer posted by the Pembroke Pines Police Department on Sept. 3 and identified him to authorities shortly after. '[Antoine] intentionally tormented and killed the ducks by repeatedly inflicting unnecessary pain and suffering, ultimately causing death in an inhumane manner,' his arrest report says. According to investigators, Antoine spotted the ducks and began harassing them while walking along a sidewalk near University Drive and Northwest 13th Street on Aug. 30, prompting the birds to scatter into nearby bushes. Surveillance video shows the 40-year-old cornered the mother duck against a chain-link fence before forcibly stepping down on her for 'approximately two minutes and ten seconds,' per his arrest report. A minute after the first attack, he stomps down hard again, 'bearing all his weight on the duck for another minute and ten seconds.' In a second clip taken moments later, Antoine's seen chasing after a group of ducklings scattering as he unsuccessfully attempts to step on them, police said. 'The actions within the video are illegal and cruel. ... Crimes against people or animals will not be tolerated in our city,' PPPD said in a Sept. 3 statement. As of Sept. 8, jail records show Antoine is being held at Broward Main Jail without bond due to being on probation for criminal mischief and possession of a counterfeit ID charges from 2024. He faces two felony charges for the duck killings: aggravated animal abuse and violation of probation. Broward records do not show who will represent him in court as of Sept. 8.
