Nebraska running back Jamal Rule earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Following a stellar debut in Nebraska's 49-21 win over Ohio, running back Jamal Rule claimed his first Big Ten Conference honor on Monday afternoon The league named Rule its Freshman of the Week. He rushed 15 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 47 yards and another score vs. the Bobcats. Rule's 100-yard effort marked the first by an NU freshman in a season opener since quarterback Adrian Martinez had 117 yards vs. Colorado in 2018. He also became the first Husker freshman running back to crack the century mark in an opener since Tierre Green (112 vs. Western Illinois) in 2004. 'He was going to be the short-yardage, goal-line back, and I said something to (offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen); I was like, 'I bet you his first play is going to be on short yards for a touchdown,' and it was,' NU head coach Matt Rhule said after the Ohio win. 'I like the explosive nature; I like the way he carried the football… Jamal had a great start for a freshman.' Rule is Nebraska's first Big Ten Freshman of the Week recipient since TJ Lateef last season.
