Kelly Osbourne responds to body shaming after father Ozzy's death

(NewsNation) — In a new interview, Kelly Osbourne says she's had the hardest year of her life since losing her father, Ozzy Osbourne, last July. In a conversation with HELLO! Magazine, the 41-year-old reality star says she endured 'cruel' body-shaming while grieving the loss. Osbourne says the wave of online criticism over her noticeably thinner appearance intensified after she and her mother, Sharon Osbourne, attended the BRIT Awards in February to honor Ozzy. She says she wasn't in a place to handle the backlash because she wasn't well at the time. 'How can you navigate something so cruel when you're so sick?' she said. She'd also responded to the 'disgusting, horrible, mean, rude' comments about her appearance last December, saying her life had been turned upside down and that she shouldn't be expected to look unaffected. Despite the criticism, she says she's now doing better, crediting a strong support system. 'What you'll find when you're grieving is that people don't know how to handle it, and you do lose a lot of friends,' she said during the interview. 'But the ones who stick around are the real ones.' She described her recovery as slow and ongoing, assisted by therapy. 'It's one foot in front of the other,' she said. 'You've got to fix the head before you can fix the body. It's a slow process. It's going to take me a minute. I'm not going to be fixed in a day. I'm not going to be fixed in one therapy session.
