Owners of a Galway pub have said a heartfelt goodbye to loyal customers as they hand over the reins this week. The Bridge Bar in Mountbellew is set to change hands after being run by the Ussher family for several years. The pub, which is over 120 years old, was put up for sale earlier this year and is one of the most iconic buildings in Mountbellew. The Ussher family shared a tribute to their time with the pub this week as they said it has been a 'great experience' working there and serving the local community. They said: 'As we officially hand over the keys to The Bridge Bar, Mountbellew, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has been part of the journey. 'Owning The Bridge Bar has been a great experience, and while the time has come for me to move on, I leave with many great memories and a genuine appreciation for all the people who made the pub what it is. 'To our customers, both regulars and those who called in from near and far, thank you for your continued support, loyalty, friendship and the many laughs along the way. A pub is nothing without its customers, and you have been at the heart of The Bridge Bar. Your contribution has been greatly appreciated. 'To our musicians and entertainers, thank you for the fantastic nights of music, entertainment and craic. You helped create some brilliant memories and brought so much life and atmosphere to the pub. 'To our suppliers, local businesses and tradespeople, thank you for your professionalism, reliability and support throughout the years. It has been a pleasure doing business with you. 'I also want to thank the wider Mountbellew community, local clubs, organisations and everyone who supported the pub through the years. Your support has meant a great deal.' They added their well-wishes to the new owners of the pub, saying they hope the pub continues the legacy of being a place to 'make great memories'. They said: 'Finally, I would like to wish the new owners every success as they begin their own chapter at The Bridge Bar. I hope the pub continues to be a place where people come together, enjoy good company and make great memories for many years to come. One local said: 'The best of good luck to you in the future or the next chapter. I worked for Costello and McDermott and called into the pub every Thursday. There was always a chat and a happy face.'
