Kolkata: The SP of Jangipur, Surinder Singh, was issued a show-cause notice and warning letter following the murder of Sujit Mondal at Dhulian in Ward 13, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said at Nabanna on Monday. Adhikari said the manner in which Mondal was hacked to death and alleged police inaction prompted the government to take action. A CID probe has been ordered, while two policemen — Sumanta Kumar Das and Shariful Alam — have been suspended. Inspector Subrata Ghosh, officer-in-charge of Shamsherganj Police Station, has been closed to the line, while Farakka SDPO Sheikh Shamsuddin has been transferred. Adhikari said Mondal's family had approached police after he went missing but alleged that adequate assistance was not provided. The CM announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family and said Mondal's wife, Sumana, would be considered for a Home Guard job.
