FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The 23-month-old child who was shot in the lower leg over the weekend is out of the hospital, along with the older victim who was also injured in the incident, according to Fresno Police.
The suspect, Paul Benefield, remains in the hospital and is being treated. Officials expect he will be booked into the Fresno County Jail upon release.
According to police, the incident occurred at a birthday party on Saturday night near First Street and Washington Avenue. That's when the suspect got into an argument with the older victim. He then pulled out a gun and shot at the victim, hitting a 23-month-old along with the older victim.
The suspect was injured after party guests attempted to disarm him, according to officials. Officers describe the suspect as suffering 'blunt force injuries to his face and head area.'
