Rep. Caskey excited to take over as South Carolina House Majority Leader

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) — After more than four years as House Majority Leader, Rep. Davey Hiott is transitioning into a new role, with Rep. Micah Caskey taking over the position. 'It's exciting to have the trust and confidence of our members, to try and push forward our conservative Republican agenda,' Caskey said. Caskey has represented the 89th District, which includes parts of Lexington County, since 2017. 'Throughout my time, I've been pushing for conservative Republican governance; that's not going to change,' Caskey explained. 'My commitment to my neighbors, to my constituents, is not going to change. The only thing that's changing is sort of my role as to the group as a collective and making sure that we do everything we can to help all of our members be successful.' Caskey said public service is one of the most important ways he can help others. 'Being able to help your neighbors is probably one of, if not the highest callings. I believe that we're all challenged to do and public service is one way to do that,' said Caskey. Caskey said Hiott has helped with the transition. 'I've been in constant contact with Davey. He has been a wonderful resource to help as we make this transition,' Caskey said. 'He's going to stay engaged through the election cycle as our majority leader emeritus. To put an official title on it, but he'll be every bit as engaged.' Caskey added that the focus right now is on general election campaigns for November.
