Pakistan's seafood exports have reached a historic level, marking important progress in the country's blue economy. According to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, seafood exports crossed $500 million for the first time in fiscal year 2025-26, reaching $568 million. Seafood exports increased by 38% over the past two years, rising from $406 million in 2023-24 to the record level of $568 million in 2025-26. Frozen fish remained Pakistan's largest seafood export, generating more than $105 million in revenue. Frozen squid, cuttlefish, fish meal, shrimp and prawns were also among the country's major seafood exports. Pakistani seafood is being exported to China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and other international markets. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs said improved export standards, food safety and access to new global markets played an important role in this growth. After a European Union ban in 2007, Pakistani seafood products are now rebuilding trust in the European market. Experts say Pakistan could expand the seafood sector to $3 billion by focusing more on value-added seafood products. The growing seafood exports are creating new opportunities for Pakistan's blue economy, employment and overall economic growth.
