MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Saxony-Anhalt Premier Sven Schulze conceded on Monday that the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, lost its mandate to form the state government.
"The CDU no longer has a mandate to form a government. We are the opposition. Now the mandate belongs to the AfD [the opposition Alternative for Germany party]," Schulze said at a press conference.
