Blue making way into SP'sofficial red & green colour

Now, the blue – a powerful symbol of Dalit resistance - is slowly but surely making its way into the party's colour scheme. Not surprisingly, Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, the student wing of Samajwadi Party, is all set to don a completely new and modern avatar – one that jells better with Gen Z: blue T-shirt and jeans or shirt and trousers of the same shade. This is not the first time that color blue is making its way into SP's official colour scheme. Recently during the meeting of party's district and city presidents from all over the state on Aug 31, party bigwigs, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav , national general secretary Shivpal Yadav and others were seen wearing blue scarfs with party's logo – bicycle – printed in red on it. The blue scarf was in contrast with the earlier red and green scarf which was replaced by the red chequered gamcha (stole) during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. When questioned about the blue scarf, party functionaries then had ducked the query. The SP functionaries claim that the blue has been adopted as it represents the vast open sky under which everyone is equal and free from caste-based discrimination. It is another matter that it also happens to be personal favourite of Dr BR Ambedkar. Blue has also been the colour of Dalits who are now an integral part of SP's PDA pitch. The new dress code for Chhatra Sabha is expected to be formally announced by the party leadership within the next couple of days at a special function to be held at SP headquarters in Lucknow. According to sources, the party leadership decided to assign a visually distinct identity to the members of the party's student wing, separate from the rest of the frontal organisations. The logo of the Chhatra Sabha, however, retains its original elements, size and colour scheme - red and green – the officials colours of SP, sources said. Party strategists say since the Chhatra Sabha comprise students who mostly are from the Gen Z, the party leadership decided to assign a colour which was popular among youths. 'Youth today prefer shades of blue be it denim jeans or denim shirts, so the party leadership decided to go with a shade that went with blue," says a senior functionary.
