Volunteers invited to Geode State Park cleanup

DANVILLE — Iowans are invited to lend a hand at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources' annual statewide Volunteer Day on Saturday, Sept. 26. Geode State Park will host a cleanup event from 10 a.m. to noon, led by the Friends of Geode State Park. Volunteers will meet at the park office, 3333 Racine Ave. Activities may include picking up litter and sprucing up trails, buildings and other park amenities. Volunteers should bring sturdy footwear, gloves, safety glasses, sunscreen and water. Those planning to attend are asked to call the park office at (319) 392-4601. 'Iowa state parks and forests are beloved places for many Iowans, and we greatly appreciate the help volunteers provide,' said Mike Cox, chief of the DNR's Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau. Volunteer activities will vary by location and may include litter pickup, painting or staining buildings, planting trees and clearing trails.
