The damage to Cuba from the US economic blockade for the period from March 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026 amounted to $8.08 billion. This was stated by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. According to him, the figure exceeded the previous record damage by 7%.
Mr. Parrilla added that over the decades of the American blockade, the total damage to Cuba has exceeded $178 billion. At the same time, the damage caused by secondary US sanctions and the Cuban energy embargo was not taken into account.
Most of all, the Cuban economy has been affected by energy restrictions, Mr. Parrilla said. According to him, such sanctions prevent the supply of fuel and other necessary goods to the country.
